Born and lived at Staveley, Derbyshire. Son of William and Mary Adkin, of 33, Poolsbrook Cottages, Staveley. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Stavley 22nd December 1914. He went to France 25th February 1915 and died of wounds 1st October 1915.

Buried/Commemorated : Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium. Plot I, Row C, Grave 28.

His brother Private Joseph Adkin 1/6th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment also fell in the Great War.
