He was born at Ilkeston, Derbyshire. Son of Samuel and Mary Ellen Aldred, of 190, Little Hallam Lance, Ilkeston. He was an iron moulder's apprentice prior to enlisting at Ilkeston. He was killed in action 21st March 1918 during the attack of Noreuil/Ervillers, France.
