Born 23rd September 1891. Son of Henry and Fanny Atkin, of School House, Westwood, Jacksdale, Nottingham. He was educated at Mundella School, Nottingham and Nottingham University, where he was a member of the Officers Training Corps (O.T.C.) and graduated B.A. aged 20. He became a schoolmaster at Bournemouth and obtained a commission in the special reserve, Sherwood Foresters, 7th May 1913. He went to France 25th October 1914 and was killed in action, 7th November 1914, aged 23, near Ploegsteert, Belgium.
