Born at Hartshorne, Derbyshire and lived at Woodville, Derbyshire. Son of Samuel and Sarah Bailey, of 13, Long Row, Woodville. He was a coal miner (horsedriver) prior to enlisting at Derby. He went to France 4th November 1914 and was killed in action 12th March 1915 during the counter attack by the Germans at Neuve Chapelle, France.

Buried/Commemorated : Le Touret Memorial, France. Panel 26 and 27.
