Born at Ditchingham, Norfolk and lived at Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. Son of Edward and Sarah Baker, of 49, Newcastle Street, Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire. Husband of Elizabeth Baker, of 58 Mason Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Mansfield, 20th November 1914. He went to France 11th October 1915 and was killed in action, 1st October 1916, during the attack on the German positions at Flers/Le Sars, France during the Battle of the Somme.

Buried/Commemorated : Thiepval Memorial, France. Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.
