Sergeant Harry Baker

Battalion : 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Bermondsey, London. Son of Harry and Elizabeth Baker, of Bilsby, Lincolnshire. Husband of Mabel Baker, of 32 Yates Street, Derby. He was a messenger prior to enlisting 27th April 1908 at London. He was appointed Lance Corporal 15th July 1909, promoted Corporal 19th May 1912. He was promoted Sergeant 19th September 1914 and went to France 14th June 1916 and was killed in action, 5th July 1916, in the attack at La Boiselle, France, during the Battle fo the Somme.

Buried/Commemorated : Thiepval Memorial, France. Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.
