Battalion : 1/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived at Swadlincote, Derbyshire. Son of William and Geraldine Barnett, of 37, Market Street, Swadlincote. Husband of Edith Nellie Barnett, of 22, Stanley Street, Swadlincote. He was a sink maker prior to enlisting 26th March 1915 at Derby. He went to France 10th December 1915 and was killed in action, 1st July 1916, aged 23, during the attack at Gommecourt, France during the first day of the Battle of the Somme.

Buried/Commemorated : Thiepval Memorial, France. Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.

His brother Private William Barnett 1/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment also fell in the Great War.
