Born at Birmingham and lived at Bolsover, Derbyshire. Son of Hannah Colley, of 1 Charlesworth Street, Carr Vale, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Chesterfield. He went to France 8th September 1914 and was killed in action, 20th September 1914, aged 23, during the German attack at Troyon, Aisne, France.
