Battalion : 1/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived at Swadlincote, Derbyshire. Son of William and Geraldine Barnett, of 37, Market Street, Swadlincote. He was a shop assistant prior to enlisting at Church Gresley, Derbyshire. He went to France 25th June 1915 and was killed in action, 1st July 1916, aged 20, during the attack at Gommecourt, France during the first day of the Battle of the Somme.

Buried/Commemorated : Thiepval Memorial, France. Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.

Eureka Park War Memorial Gates, Swadlincote, Derbyshire.

His brother Private Henry Barnett 1/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment also fell in the Great War.
