Born at Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, 22nd March 1892. Son of John and Rosamund Godson, of 24, Stoney Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield. Husband of Nellie Partridge (Formerly Godson), of 44, Dalesforth Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield. He was a miner at Tibshelf Colliery and enlisted at Sutton-in-Ashfield. He died 17th October 1918.

His brother Corporal Frank Godson 1/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment also fell in the Great War.
