Born and lived at Middleton-by-Wirksworth, Derbyshire. Son of John and Georgania Goodall, of The Green, Middleton-by-Wirksworth, Derbyshire. He was a limestone quarry delver prior to enlisting at Derby. He went to to France 14th July 1915 and was killed in action, 17th June 1916, by German gas shelling of the trenches near Neuve-Eglise, Belgium.
