He was born at Beccles, Sussex and lived at 48 Lenton Boulevard, Nottingham. Son of William and Marianne Hayward. He was a cycle maker prior to enlisting at Nottingham in 1908. He went to France 4th November 1914 and was killed in action 31st December 1914 whilst serving in the trenches at La Gorgue, near Richebourg, France.
