Born at Nottingham and lived at 73, Norton Street, Radford, Nottingham. Son of Thomas and Selina Johnson, of 20, Wimbourne Road, Radford, Nottinghamshire. He was jacquard puncher prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He was killed in action, 16th September 1917, age 21, during the attack near Zillebeke, Belgium.

His brother Private Ernest Johnson, 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, also fell in the Great War.
