Lived at 73, Norton Street, Radford, Nottingham. Son of Thomas and Selina Johnson, of 20, Wimbourne Road, Radford, Nottingham. He was blind maker prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He went to France 4th November 1914 and was killed in action, 5th July 1916, aged 21, during the attack at La Boisselle, France during the Battle of the Somme.

Buried/Commemorated : Thiepval Memorial, France. Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.

His brother Private Edward Johnson, 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, also fell in the Great War.
