Born and lived at Basford, Nottingham. Son of Thomas and Elizabeth Mountford, of 114, Park Lane, Old Basford, Nottingham. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting 1907 at Nottingham. He went to France 8th September 1914 and was killed in action, 20th September 1914, during the German attack on the trenches at Troyon, France.
