Battalion : 1/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Nottingham and lived at 87, Ena Avenue, Sneinton Dale, Nottingham. Son of Matthew and Ada Notman, of 2 Alpine Terrace, Nottingham. He was a picture framer at Boots the Chemist prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He went to France 28th June 1915 and was killed in action, 1st July 1916, aged 23, in the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.

Buried/Commemorated : Thiepval Memorial, France. Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.

His brother Private John Henry Notman, 1/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, also fell in the Great War.
