Born in Grantham, Lincolnshire and lived at Guildhall Cottages, Shakespeare Street, Nottingham. Son of Thomas Henry and Mary E. Ockleford, of 56 Burlington Road, Thornton Heath, South London. He was a labourer prior to enlisting 21st April 1902 at Nottingham. He served in Singapore from the 5th November 1904 to 11th December 1906 and India 12th December 1906 to the 3rd October 1911. He left the Army in 1912 and re-enlisted 3rd May 1913. He was appointed Lance Corporal 18th October 1913, went to France 8th September 1914 an was killed in action, 20th September 1914, during the German attack on the British positions at Troyon, France.
